Abstract: Continued fractions are a cornerstone of Diophantine approximation, and their higher-dimensional generalizations play a important role in dynamics and number theory. This talk will present a geometric approach to such generalizations via the construction of a natural Poincaré section, along with a method to compute the corresponding return map, which is connected to the Littlewood conjecture. I will also discuss some ongoing joint work with Anurag Rao and Nikolay Moshchevitin, which is inspired by the work of Cheung and Chevallier.
