Abstract:In 1995, R. Kashaev proposed a fantastic conjecture, called the volume conjecture, which connects two distinctly different branches of mathematics: quantum topology and hyperbolic geometry. In this talk, I will review the background of the volume conjecture and then give an asymptotic expansions for the colored Jones polynomial of twist knots. As a consequence, we prove the volume conjecture for twist knots. This talk is based on the joint work with Qingtao Chen.
