Abstract: We will explain a strategy using local and global intertwining periods, to relate global distinction by a Galois involution for inner forms of GL(n), to the occurence of a pole at zero of global Asai L functions. In particular this implies that the global Jacquet-Langlands correspondence preserves distinction, a result already obtained by Flicker and Hakim under local restrictions that we remove. This is a collaboration with Omer Offen and Chang Yang.
