Abstract: Using generating functions of contactomorphisms, we develop a discrete variation principle that detects translated chains, which is a contact analogy of periodic points of Hamiltonian systems. As an application, we construct an equivariant homology theory, and then we can give a new proof of the contact non-squeezing theorem. This talk is based on joint work with Maia Fraser and Sheila Sandon.
