Abstract: Calabi-Yau metrics are Kahler metrics with vanishing Ricci curvature. Yau’s solution of the Calabi conjecture characterizes the space of compact Calabi-Yau metrics in terms of algebro-geometric data consisting of a complex structure and a polarization. Well-known conjectures in algebraic geometry are closely related to understanding the singularity formation, especially the volume collapsing behavior of these metrics. We will present some recent progress on understanding the collapsing geometry of Calabi-Yau metrics in complex dimension 2. Based on joint work with Ruobing Zhang.
