Speaker: Eric Bedford
Eric Bedford got his PhD under B.A. Taylor from University of Michigan. He has held positions at Courant Institute, Princeton University and Indiana University. He is currently a member of the Institute for Mathematical Sciences at Stony Brook University.
Eric Bedford works on several areas of Complex Analysis, Complex Geometry, and Complex Dynamics. In Complex Analysis, he has worked on Complex (Pluri-) Potential Theory, and questions of Holomorphic Equivalence. In Complex Geometry, he has worked on problems related to the existence of Complex Disks. Most recently, he has worked on dynamics in complex dimension 2. This includes the Henon family of maps, as well as Rational Surface Automorphisms.
He likes to play piano. In his free time, he likes to play squash.
Title : The Shape of the Julia set in Complex Dynamics
Abstract: We consider problems in the dynamics of mappings of complex space. The dynamics of these mappings are closely related to the shape of the so-called Julia set. We will discuss results concerning the geometry of Julia sets.
