Abstract:Homogeneous spaces are spaces with transitive Lie group action. The study of the dynamics of subgroup actions on homogeneous spaces, such as orbit closures, invariant measures and equidistribution, has found many applications in number theory in recent decades. I will survey some of these applications, including Oppenheim conjecture and Littlewood conjecture in Diophantine approximation, and distribution of integral points on spheres.
