Abstract: Morihiko Saito’s theory of mixed Hodge modules gives a wide-ranging generalization of the theory of variations of Hodge structures. It has found many applications in the 35 years since its creation, ranging from topology, birational geometry, Hyperkahler geometry to geometric representation theory. In this lecture series, I will give a motivated introduction of this theory, with minimal background requirement and a focus on the one-dimensional base. Towards the end, I will present Christian Schnell’s recent breakthrough on the symmetry conjecture about Lagrangian fibrations by Junliang Shen and Qizheng Yin.
