Abstract: How do fundamental groups of quasi-projective varieties determine their hyperbolicity? In this talk we address this question when there are linear representations of their fundamental groups. We give a sharp condition via these representations for quasi-projective varieties to be hyperbolic, which fits well with the strong Green-Griffiths-Lang conjecture.
