Abstract: In number theory, there are many famous, old, open conjectures on the distribution of primes. At ICM in Cambridge in 1912, the following four problems are listed by Lamdau as main research problems on primes in 20th century: 1. the Goldbach conjecture; 2. the twin prime conjecture; 3. Legendre’s conjecture; 4. Euler's conjecture (there are infinitely many primes of the form n^2+1). They are called Landau’s problems nowadays. In this talk, we will introduce the history and current developments on Euler's conjecture, including the latest progress made in cooperation with Ping Xi. In particular, we introduce and develop a new tool in the study of this problem: arithmetic exponent pairs.
