Abstract: Let d(n) denote the number of positive divisors of n. Dirichlet was evidently the first mathematician who studied the asymptotic behavior of, as x tends to infinity. The Dirichlet divisor problem is to determine the average order of d(n) as well as the order of the error term. In this talk, I will introduce three methods of estimating , including Dirichlet's hyperbola method and an analytic method that uses the residue theorem in complex analysis.
