Abstract:
In this talk, I will introduce my recent joint work with Professor Nader Masmoudi about the enhanced dissipation for the 2D Couette flow. We prove that if the initial data is a small perturbation of the Couette flow in some function space, then the solution of 2D Navier-Stokes equation approaches to some shear flow which is close to Couette flow for time t >> Re^{1/3} by a mixing enhanced dissipation effect and then convergence back to Couette flow when t goes to infinite. We show that the smallness and the regularity assumptions of the initial perturbation which make the enhanced dissipation happen are closely related.
