Abstract: This is an elementary introduction to period maps, period domains, and the Torelli theorem for Calabi—Yau manifolds (and K3 surfaces in particular). Almost everything that I plan to talk about is contained in Claire Voisin’s textbook on Hodge theory and complex algebraic geometry.
