Colloquium: Degeneration of Calabi-Yau metrics

Colloquium | Institute of Mathematical Sciences

Time:10:30-11:30, Dec. 25, Tuesday

LocationRoom 302,  Library

Speaker: Song Sun, Associate Professor at UC Berkeley

Abstract:  In this talk I will discuss recent progress on understanding the collapsing behavior of Calabi-Yau metrics when the complex structure degenerates. In the case of K3 surfaces we shall explain a glueing construction that leads to a multi-scale collapsing phenomenon for the corresponding hyperkahler metrics. If time permits I will discuss some more recent work towards the higher dimensional and more general situation. An important feature involves certain incomplete Calabi-Yau metrics constructed using symmetry reduction and singular perturbative analysis.
